Speech Sounds

If your child is difficult to understand, drops or swaps sounds, or you've been told by a childcare educator or teacher that their speech isn't as clear as other children their age, speech therapy can help!

Signs Parents Often Notice:

  • Family and friends have trouble understanding what your child is saying
  • Certain sounds are left out, or swapped for another sound (e.g. "tup" for "cup")
  • Your child seems aware that they're not being understood and gets frustrated
  • A teacher or educator has raised concerns about speech clarity

What's Involved

A speech pathologist will first complete an assessment to understand which sounds your child finds difficult and how this compares to typical speech sound development for their age.

From there, a therapy plan is developed and sessions focus on practising target sounds using play-based and structured activities suited to your child's age and interests.

All therapy plans are based on the best evidence based approach to meet your child's goals.  Our speech pathologists have training and experience is all speech sound disorders, including articulation, phonological and motor speech based difficulties (including Childhood Apraxia of Speech).

Progress is reviewed regularly and the plan is adjusted as needed.
